HST Photometry of Dense Globular
نویسنده
چکیده
It is shown that in very crowded elds, such as the cores of globular clusters, aperture pho-tometry of subsampled-deconvolved HST/WFPC2 images gives statistically better results than any of the following DAOPHOT-II reductions of the original data: aperture photometry, proole-tting photometry, and the hybrid method of aperture photometry on neighbour-subtracted images. Furthermore , the deconvolved images also provide the basis for improved star detection, using otherwise conventional means. These conclusions are developed and illustrated using both real HST/WFPC2 data of the Milky Way bulge globular cluster NGC 6293 in the F555W and F814W bands, and realistic simulations of a globular cluster observed under similar circumstances. The results are a consequence of exploiting the nature of the HST/WFPC2 point-spread function (PSF): undersampled, spatially varying and with high-frequency structure in the wings, but determinable to high accuracy by subsam-pled spatially-varying modelling of rst-guess Tiny Tim grids followed by empirical improvements.

A Survey of M 31 Globular Clusters using WFPC 2 on board HST
We report new, as yet unpublished HST/WFPC2 V, I pho-tometry of 9 globular clusters in M31. These are part of a total sample of 19 clusters on M31 with well observed CMDs from HST. The clusters have the full range of horizontal branch morphologies from blue HB to red clump, but none are found with an extreme (blue only) horizontal branch. Plots of HB type vs [Fe/H] are similar to those of Galac...
متن کاملPhotometri binaries in fty Globular Clusters
The HST/ACS Survey of Galactic globular clusters (GGCs) is a HST Treasury project aimed at obtaining high precision photometry in a large sample of globular clusters. The homogeneous photometric catalogs that has been obtained from these data by Anderson et al. (2008) represents a golden mine for a lot of astrophysical studies. In this paper we used the catalog to analyse the properties of MS-M...
متن کاملHst Photometry of the Globular Cluster M4
This paper presents a detailed description of the acquisition and processing of a large body of imaging data for three fields in the globular cluster M4 taken with the Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 aboard the Hubble Space Telescope. Analysis with the ALLFRAME package yielded the deepest photometry yet obtained for this cluster. The resulting data-set for 4708 stars (positions and calibrated...
متن کاملInfrared array photometry of bulge globular clusters I . Combined ground based JK and HST VI photometry of NGC 6553 ?
JK infrared photometry for the bulge globular cluster NGC 6553, combined with high resolution visual VI observations are presented and discussed in connection with the bulge metal rich population. The infrared data were taken with IRAC2 at ESO 2.2m telescope while the optical counterparts are from Hubble Space Telescope (HST). We find a mean magnitude for the horizontal branch of VHB = 16.92, a...
متن کاملImaging of the Merging Galaxy NGC 3597 and its Population of Proto–Globular Clusters
We present wide field-of-view near–infrared imaging from the NTT and very deep optical imaging from the HST of the young merging galaxy NGC 3597. The morphology of the galaxy and the properties of the newly formed proto–globular clusters (PGCs) are examined. Our K band data reveals the presence of a second nucleus, which provides further evidence that NGC 3597 is the result of a recent merger. ...
